Description

Stems are stout and erect. Panicles are spike-like and more or less included in the puffed up sheath. Spikelets have one flower and are longer (1/4 inch) than on most of the other dropseeds. Tips of the lemma and palea are smooth and boat-shaped.

Tall dropseed is a perennial, warm-season, native - 18 to 48 inches tall.

Fair grazing for both livestock and wildlife.


Habitat

Grows on plains or hills, grasslands, borders of woods, road right-of-ways, and in sandy soils.
